"I don’t think that we could ever find the words to tell you how much it has meant to us to have The Great Canadian Quilt here in Barrie. The staff at the MacLaren Art Centre has been super to us, and has even offered to host a fund raising event on December 1st for the Grandmas Campaign.
It was such an honor and privilege to spend the week with Stephen Lewis, Michelle Landsburg, Anne Murray, Rita MacNeil and June Callwood. It was lovely to see the reverence of the people who came to see the quilt and to hear the story behind it.
We had a group of students from Japan and a couple visiting from Russian. We had one teenage boy who emptied his pockets and donated “all he had on him.” We were interviewed by the media, and although we looked like deer caught in the headlights they made us look good. We would never have had such exposure if not for you sharing your “baby”.
People who came in to see the quilt and some who came in by accident left feeling good about all of the “names” we have in Canada and about the love and compassion it took to create it. There was someone for each person to be excited about a true national treasure, because of you we feel so connected to the Grandmas both here and in Africa.
A true grass roots project ordinary members of the community making a huge difference. How proud you must be.
Audrey could you please send me an address where I could send a book that we had everyone sign when they came to see the quilt? I am sure that you will enjoy the comments. Once again I thank you so very much and wish the quilt a safe journey, I am going to miss seeing it I will try and visit when it come back in our neighborhood.”
